Learning to Celebrate
Behind the scenes of my very special book launch party celebrating the release of "Good (Enough) Mother"
Celebrating doesn’t come naturally to me. I’m more of a Taylor Swift—lock me in a quiet room with teardrops on my journal and all of my big feelings and I’m set.
I’ve worked hard over the years to learn how to celebrate. I really think celebrating is a skill we have to learn and practice, a muscle to keep flexing.
When I mapped out a plan for my book launch, I knew we needed to throw a big ol’ party. Not because I enjoy being the center of attention (I most certainly do not), but because I wanted to mark the milestone with all of my friends and family gathered in one place.

I wanted to show myself that everything I’ve worked so hard on over the last five years added up to something good. I wanted to see with my own eyes people holding my book in their hands, to witness my community rallying around me to celebrate this accomplishment.
I wanted to live up to the tagline of this newsletter: Write My Story is a newsletter about the craft of writing personal stories & living a life worth remembering.
I’ll never forget this incredibly special day. We laughed, we cried, and we said “Cheers!” to the launch of my very first book baby.
Writing is the most solitary activity, perfect for loners and all of my fellow big feelers. I will always love it. But gathering to celebrate truly brought my book to life and into the light of community. Together, we launched this weird little quirky book out into the world!
